Answers to common questions regarding our services and procedures.
Caulk FAQ
How often should shower recaulking services be performed?
Caulk in a high water environment such as a tub or a shower should be replaced every 1-3 years. If you notice the shower caulk separate, crack or get moldy, it should be addressed immediately.
What type of caulk should be used in a shower?
The best caulks for tubs, sinks, or shower stalls come in tubes labeled “Tub and Tile” or “Kitchen and Bath.” These are either acrylic latex or silicone compounds that have been chemically tweaked to resist mildew and to stick to smooth, nonporous surfaces.
How long does the caulk take to dry?
Caulk takes a minimum of 24 hours to completely set up and dry. Some caulks state “shower-ready in 4 hours” but we still recommend waiting the full 24 hours.
What type of caulk is best?
We use either a siliconized acrylic or a 100% silicone caulk but which one we use really depends on the situation. Best bet would be to leave it up to the professional and trust they are using the best type for your application.
